Quiet Lightning Poetry Reading Video, “Mothernever”

Yesterday’s Quiet Lightning reading was fun and thematic, with a strong focus on place. It was also the first time I’ve read with buses and trolleys zooming in the background. Gotta love the San Francisco streets.

Here’s a brief video from the event. My poem begins, “My mother never went to Vegas.”

Quiet Lightning Reading Jan 2

I’ll be ringing in 2017 in style, joining a group of amazing writers to read hereĀ in San Francisco. Quiet Lightning is a monthly literary event that works like a mixtape: seamlessly interwoven texts, no banter, and unique locations. They also have a neat magazine called sparkle + blink that features the writing chosen that month, with issues given out to the first 100 attendees and accessible online. This issue will feature art by Nancy Calef. The next reading will take place January 2nd, starting at 4:30pm, on the steps of Montgomery BART Station during rush hour. I expect we’ll be some commuters’ entertainment. Check out the full lineup here!

Thank you to Kate Folk and Evan Karp for inviting me to read my poem “Mothernever.” I’m honored to be part of this event, and look forward to seeing some of you there!
